The epicenter of Orlando's hotels and of many crowded
conventions that are held here. All snuggled tightly, and
affixed to the winding, and sometimes congested, corridors
of this area's most famous road - International Drive!
International Drive begins its journey just north of
Universal Studios. It travels south, like a meandering
river, through the chiselled commercial canyons of a myriad
of smaller attractions, shops, restaurants and hotels that
exist all along its banks. It has many tributaries, such as
Universal Blvd. a navigable channel that loops around
I-Drive shortcutting from the entranceway of Universal
Studios past Wet N' Wild and ending up joining back to
I-Drive at the Orlando Orange County Convention Center.
Just downstream a bit and away from the built up canyons,
you'll find Sea World.
While
very much being a part of 'the whole', along with Lake Buena
Vista, Kissimmee and the Walt Disney World Resort,
International Drive actually creates a sense of being its
own wonderland with its bright multi-colored lights, neon
signs and many attractions. Universal Studios, Islands of
Adventure, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Wonderworks, Wet N'
Wild and Sea World - just to name a few...
Continuing south past Sea World things are less crowded.
The Central Florida Parkway, just south of the Beeline
Expressway (Hwy. 528), is one of the many routes that runs
east / west through the wider open countryside as you head
for the Walt Disney World Resort area. As it nears the
junctions of Hwy 535, Hwy 417 and Hwy 536, this part of
International Drive creates an almost buffer like zone with
its wide expanses that separate the geographic areas and
boundaries of Lake Buena Vista, Kissimmee, Walt Disney
World, Osceola and Orange Counties.
